Prime Minister, Wu Den-yih, heard today the report of the Minister of Justice acting, Huang Shi-ming, on the guarantees of the right to secrecy of correspondence for citizens. The plays were put on so sharply last year: only 26 000 claims made on plays were made on 92,000 telephone lines, and 87% of these requests were approved. The Deputy Director General of the Government Information Office explained the position of Prime Minister Wu Den-yih in these terms: "He believes that the constitution guarantees citizens the right to secrecy of correspondence. The wiretapping of citizens by government organizations should follow the needs of criminal investigations or security of the state, and in accordance with the law and the principle of necessity. The scope of the plays should be as small as possible, to avoid infringing the rights of man. " The Prime Minister also demanded that the wild plays performed by unauthorized persons are repressed by the joint action of the Ministries of Justice and Interior.
